Hoarder Body Discovered in Home

The House Clearance London Company writes about the discovery of the body of a hoarder in her home.

Compulsive hoarding is a secretive and mysterious condition which often goes on without anyone else knowing about it. This seems to have been the case with Margareta Scheibe, a 72-year-old woman from Worth, Illinois, whose body was recently discovered underneath piles of junk in her own home.

Although her son knew about her hoarding habit, local people and friends claimed that they had no idea she was a hoarder and that she displayed no outward signs of the condition. This is quite common with hoarding, and sufferers often come across as entirely normal because no one knows what is going on behind closed doors.

Following an autopsy it was confirmed that she died of heart disease, but her hoarding habit prevented her body from being discovered for longer than normal. In fact, police visited her home three times without finding a body, and it was only when they returned again that they found her.

It is not known exactly how long she had been dead, but neighbours said that they had not seen her for about a month.

Her son, Bill Scheibe, confirmed that she had been a hoarder for decades, and that he had not returned to live with her as a result of her habit. It is thought that her hoarding might stem from her post-war life in Germany.

Although it is not known whether the hoarding of items itself was to blame for her death, hoarding can certainly lead to serious health problems. Mould and vermin can become issues, and safety is also a serious concern because items can fall onto the occupants of the buildings.
